Gulf Finance House B.S.C announces sponsorship of Bahrain Islamic Banking Awareness Week

The leading Bahrain-based Islamic investment bank, Gulf Finance House B.S.C announced today sponsoring the Bahrain Islamic Banking Awareness Week, a four-day forum on Islamic finance and industry organized by the General Council of Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (GCIBFI) from June 28-July 1 2004.

Announcing the decision to sponsor the awareness program which will bring renowned Islamic Scholars, youth and leadership experts to Bahrain, Mr. Esam Janahi, CEO of GFH said: "We are proud to sponsor the awareness program, the first-of its kind in the region and the world. Being an Islamic institution, we believe that it is our commitment to contribute to such events which seek to enhance and spread awareness on the industry and highlight the innovative nature of Islamic investments."

"It is also significant that the program is being held in Bahrain, a pioneer in Islamic finance and industry. We at GFH consider it as a rare privilege to partner with GCIBFI, the pioneering institution and our Industry's sole trade association that functions as an apex institution for the development of Islamic finance and institution world over," he said.

GCIBFI, in which GFH is also a member, is an international autonomous non-profit corporate body that represents Islamic banks and financial institutions and the Islamic financial industry globally. It was incorporated in the Kingdom of Bahrain in May 2001.

The program which has received widespread support from central banks of the region, international Islamic institutions and corporates will be a highly interactive platform opportunity for the local community in Bahrain and internationally to see the developments made by the Islamic financial industry and also to see its potential to trailblaze social growth through key economic programmes and activities.

"We are grateful to GCIBFI for giving us this opportunity to sponsor the Bahrain Islamic Banking Awareness Week since it will help GFH communicate the innovative nature of Islamic investment strategy the bank has been following over the last few years to a wider audience," Mr. Janahi said

"The Bahrain Islamic Banking Awareness Week is a significant event, particularly in the context of the rapid growth in Islamic finance, with Islamic banks world over managing funds to the tune of US$260 billion," said Sheikh Saleh A. Kamel, Chairman of GCIBFI.

"We are extremely happy that GFH, one of the most innovative Islamic investment institutions, has extended sponsorship to the awareness program which seeks to further the cause of the Islamic finance and industry," he added.

Commenting on the participation of GFH, Dr. Ezzedine Khoja, Secretary General, GCIBFI said: "The participation of GFH, a rapidly growing Islamic institution with global ambitions, in this event as a sponsor adds immense value to our endeavour."
