The roadshow, themed Medical Updates - The Singapore Experience, took place in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain from 20 to 27 May 2004 and brought together a delegation of doctors from the major health-care organizations in Singapore - Singapore Health Services, National Healthcare Group, Parkway Group Healthcare, and Raffles Hospital with medical professionals from the Middle East.

Addressing important issues such as Morbidities of Obesity; Advances in Oncology & Cardiology; and Advances in Modern Medicine, the roadshow saw the Singapore medical specialists speaking on topics such as Evidence-based Medicine in Coronary Revascularisation, Stem Cell Transplants, Advances in Brain Tumour Management, Surgery in the Management of Morbid Obesity, Breakthroughs in Surgery for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Robotic Surgery, Advances in Breast Cancer, Cutting Edge Ophthalmology and Management of Sports Injuries and Osteoarthritis.

Members of the SingaporeMedicine delegation also met with Ministry of Health Officials in both the UAE and Bahrain, and visited hospitals in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. In addition, in a joint programme with Bahrain Specialist Hospital, nurses from BSH conducted free health checks while doctors from Singapore gave free health talks on topics such as women's health and diabetic retinopathy to the public.

"We are delighted with the support we received for the roadshow that not only united some of the industry's most brilliant and highly regarded doctors from the UAE, Bahrain and Singapore, but also gave us a platform from which to share knowledge and recent medical innovations" commented Mr Kai Yin Lee, Deputy Director for SingaporeMedicine.

The roadshow was part of an initiative that SingaporeMedicine has set for itself to further promote Singapore in the Middle East market as a viable destination for quality healthcare. Singapore currently receives more than 200,000 international patients a year and is hoping to attract 1 million foreign patients annually by 2012.
