INTRACOM appoints new head of Middle East operations

INTRACOM, one of the world's largest providers of telecommunications, information and defense electronic systems, announced today it has strengthened its Middle East operations by appointing Stavros Vougas as the new managing director, for its Dubai-based subsidiary, INTRACOM Middle East FZE.

Signaling the importance of the region to INTRACOM, Vougas will further develop the company's presence in the Middle East's growing telecommunications market. The main areas of focus for Vougas will be to supply technology to all four key verticals - telecommunications, defense, government and banking.

'The Middle East is a key INTRACOM market, and we expect strong growth in telecommunication and information systems during the coming years. Stavros' appointment demonstrates the dedication we have to achieving even greater levels of success in the region,' said G. Deligiannis, CEO of INTRACOM.

Based in the Middle East since 2000, Vougas brings to the role more than a decade of experience in leading IT companies across emerging markets. With a strong track record for achieving results in sales, channel development, and managing large teams, he is fluent in English, French and Greek.

'INTRACOM is dedicated to expanding its presence in markets outside of Europe. My aim is to capture the strong demand that exists in the Middle East for telecommunication and information systems and drive the business for INTRACOM's regional office,' said Vougas. 'In the Middle East, we have a strong team in place to accelerate the pace of our business growth, while providing the highest standards of service to our customers, and partners.'

By the end of 2004, INTRACOM is expected to sign contracts valued at more than 620 million euros. Currently more than 45 percent of the company's annual turnover is generated by exports and in the next few years that figure is expected to reach 50 percent.
