- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai Medical College for Girls (DMCG), the first private college in the UAE to be recognised for awarding a Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery, has opened its doors to admissions from prospective women medical undergraduates for the 2004-2005 academic year.
DMCG Dean, Professor Mohammed Galal El-Din says that the College is expecting strong demand for the 50 new undergraduate places on offer every year. "Our College is now recognised as true regional centre of medical excellence giving talented young women in the UAE the opportunity to follow a successful career in medicine.
"Across the world and here in the UAE, women students are outperforming men, and a further indication of our success at DMCG is our ability to attract the best talent in our staff to pass on their expertise and experience to the young doctors and surgeons of tomorrow."
Since 1991 there have been 480 successful women graduates from the College with many enjoying highly successful careers at a number of hospitals and clinics across the UAE and overseas.
Professor Mohammed Galal El-Din advises prospective students to apply for admission as early as possible to allow for their applications to be reviewed. Selected students asked for interview before the first term of the new academic year commences at the end of August.
"We expect demand for places to outstrip supply so we recommend that suitable applicants apply as early as possible" he explained.
Minimum admission requirements are a UAE Higher Secondary School Certificate with the three main Science Subjects (Chemistry, Biology and Physics) and a minimum average of 80%. Other equivalent high school certificates are also accepted. For successful applicants there is also a further entry exam or "Acceptance Test" and interview.

When established in 1986, the Dubai Medical College for Girls was the first private college recognised locally and internationally awarding a Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery in the UAE. The British Medical Council granted recognition to the degree of MBBS awarded by the College in 1995 that means that graduates can register for work, fellowship and higher studies in the UK as well as participate in examinations of the American and Arab Boards. In 2000 the World Health Organisation enlisted the college as one of the recognised and accredited medical schools in its edition of World Directory of Medical Schools.
