Non-postal services register huge demand at Emirates Post's post-offices

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, July 18 - 2004 at 14:05
  • PRESS RELEASE

The non-postal services at Emirates Post's post-offices have generated a huge response in recent months because customers can avail of multiple services under one roof at a location closest to their workplace or home.

Among the services that have generated good demand are DEWA and SEWA bill payment, Sharjah Medical District services, Western Union money transfer, Dubai Municipality's parking cards and Etisalat's Wasel and pre-paid cards.

"We have recently signed agreements with different government organizations to offer their services through our post-office network, as part of a strategic plan to transform post-offices into one-stop centres for multiple services," said Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post. "We have seen a significant rise in demand for these services, thus helping us to serve our customers through value-addition."

Since the launch of these services, more than 37,000 transactions were carried out for DEWA and SEWA services in Dubai and Sharjah. The post offices in Sharjah handled over 45,000 transactions in the applications and renewals of medical service licences and health cards on behalf of Sharjah Medical District. More than 48,000 prepaid Etisalat cards were purchased at the various post offices. Over 12,000 prepaid parking cards of Dubai Municipality were sold. The Western Union Money Transfer facilities have also proved to be very popular with customers, Mr. Al Daboos said.

"The post offices are able to deliver integrated non-postal services due to the sophisticated POS system that interlinks all post offices and the concerned government organizations. We have also installed ATM machines, small bank branches and Etisalat payment machines, and we have plans to add new services after signing agreements with more government organizations," Mr. Al Daboos added.

The portfolio of non-postal services offered by Emirates Post includes E-Vision subscriptions; banking services from Union National Bank, starting with the Jumeirah Post offices and spreading to other branches; new applications and renewals of private medical services of Sharjah Medical District; applications for the UAE University and visa applications for the Ministry of Labour.
