New Golf Pro joins Tower Links Golf Club
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, July 26 - 2004 at 11:57
- PRESS RELEASE
Jonathan Porteous has recently arrived in the Emirates to join the teaching staff at Tower Links Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah, in their recently opened state-of-the-art Golf Academy.
From Edinburgh he moved to Cairo, Egypt, where he joined the Katameya Heights Golf and Tennis Resort to both teach and further develop their Junior Programme. Jonathan also assisted the Head Professional Gary Constable, now the Director of Golf at Tower Links, to coach the Egyptian National Teams at both junior and senior levels to success.
At Tower Links Golf Club he aims to attract new players to the game from both the local vicinity and further afield, because as Jonathan says "this is the first time that international standard golf facilities have been available in the area and I would certainly like to see people taking advantage of them." He went on to say "We have developed a varied and wide range of programmes that will not only help people play the game, but also to have some fun in the process." He also added "At the academy we will be able to offer the established player's corrective teaching programmes incorporating our state-of-the-art video analysis system, as well as teaching golf to newcomers as individuals or in groups. There will also be playing lessons on the course, and we will also tailor-make lessons to suit the individual players need"
Junior Golf is also high on his priority list and Jonathan will actively visit the schools in the Emirate to encourage young people to take up the sport, a project which is heavily supported by of the owner HH Sheikh Faisal Bin Saqr Al Qassimi. The Tower Links team will work alongside the U.G.A. which has an excellent Junior Development Programme.
Jonathan is looking forward to his new role at Tower Links, where he plans to go on developing his career in both teaching and golf operations in general. In his spare time, of which there is not too much - he enjoys watching and playing football along with keeping fit by going to the gym.

About Tower Links Golf Club
The Tower Links Golf Club is an 18 hole; Par 72 Golf course and Golf Academy complete with driving range and short game facilities. Nine holes and the practice facilities will have floodlighting for night play.
The course is 7,000 yards in length with four tees: professional, men, seniors and ladies, therefore providing tee-off opportunities for all standards of play. Even though this is primarily a tourist course with a variety of risk and reward challenges - Tower Links will however, when played from the back tees become a championship course.
The landscaping of the course will include over 2,000 palms, 6,000 trees, and 100,000 shrubs. In the near distance, the Hajar mountains further enhance the already natural quality of the course. The combination of all these features creates a golf course unlike any other in the Middle East.
