- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai International Capital today announced the launch of the 'Dubai Yachting' project - which aims to position Dubai, with its excellent infrastructure and tourism facilities, as the world's premiere Yachting Destination.
"The new project complements perfectly Dubai's Strategic Plan which has been created under the vision, guidance and leadership of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister," the Chairman of Dubai Development and Investment Authority, Mohammed Al Gergawi pointed out.
"His Highness has identified tourism as a key driver of growth and has set us all the target of attracting 15 million tourists to Dubai by the year 2010. The expansion of Dubai airport, the rapidly growing hospitality sector, mega tourism, leisure and entertainment complex, Dubailand - and others - are all parts of this broad vision. Dubai Yachting is proud to add a new dimension to the global tourism and lifestyle centre that Dubai is rapidly developing into," Al Gergawi added.
'Dubai Yachting' project will see the creation of a magnificent new marina on the last remaining in-city beaches of the prestigious AED 5.2 billion Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). The whole design and concept will be comparable, if not better than some of the world's most famous marina developments in the western Mediterranean, which is considered one of the world's best summer destinations for yachting enthusiasts.
"The global yachting scenario is experiencing sustained growth. Our research shows, that apart from the Europeans, Middle East residents are ranked amongst the highest buyers of yachts in the world," said Sameer Al Ansari, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai International Capital.
Ideal Choice
"Add to that the fact that Dubai is the ideal choice for a winter home for global yacht enthusiasts. The city is in the centre of a region that encompasses one-sixth of humanity that accounts for US $1.1 trillion worth of gross domestic product; the city is located astride the east-west cross-roads of the world; it has been blessed with a highly beneficent climate during winters when Europe is too cold; it has world-class tourism and hospitality facilities; excellent communications and transport links, wonderful waterways with expansive opportunities for water sports or leisure - the list is endless," Al Ansari pointed out.
Magnificent Fleet
The 'Dubai Yachting' project will also include a Yachting Academy that will enter into joint venture with the world's most reputed Yacht Academies to provide world recognized yacht certification for Yachtsmen and offer packages that will include one-week certification and yachting holiday.
"Dubai Yachting is expected to attract yacht owners and charters from all over the world at all times of the year. It is part of the Dubai's Strategic Plan, which aims to transform the emirate into an international tourism attraction. The government is working on the infrastructure. The private sector will benefit from investment opportunities that the project will offer," said Al Ansari.
