Dentists and medical doctors in the Arab region are now able to use the sophisticated digital technology to help them capture, diagnose and show patients' conditions, thanks to a new system developed by a French genius using EPSON's digital camera, the PhotoPC3100z.

Mr. Bernard Petitjean has added a simple accessory to the EPSON PhotoPC3100z to allow dentists, dermatologists, oncologists and many other medical specialists to use macro-photography to take close-up shots and long shots for the affected area of the body at a fraction of the cost of other equivalent existing equipment.

Dr Daniel Kahale and Dr Rami Sarkis, both Doctors in Dental Surgery (DDS) and lecturers at St. Joseph University in Lebanon, have discovered the simple but effective technological breakthrough while on a professional trip to France. Since then they have become staunch advocates of the new system adapted on EPSON and what it can offer to the medical profession in the Arab region, so much so that they will be organising a seminar for Mr. Beranrd Petitjean in Beirut in early February.

Mr. Bernard Petitjean carried out a scientific comparison using most of the digital cameras on the market, and found that EPSON PhotoPC 3000z and later EPSON PhotoPC 3100z gave the best results in terms of True Color, high resolution and quality over price ratio.

Dr Daniel Kahale explained: "The system was made possible by using the 'Through The Lens' (TTL) flash light technique, which allows us to get professional high quality, reproducible output for the medical photo needs."

Dermatologists and oncologists will also be able to benefit from the newly adapted EPSON digital camera.

More than two hundred dentists and medical doctors from St Joseph University, the Lebanese University and the Arab University in Lebanon are expected to attend Mr. Bernard Petitjean's seminar.

Dr Kahale estimates that less than two per cent of professionals in the medical field in the Arab region use digital photography to assist them in their work. "In a symposium I attended in France last year, all dentists I met were using some kind of digital imaging. I expect a big boom over the next 12 months when this trend picks up in our region."
