Rheumatoid Arthritis specialists highlight importance of early aggressive treatment
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, August 02 - 2004 at 09:34
- PRESS RELEASE
Experts on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from across the region recently met in Dubai for an educational summit on RA.
They stressed the need for increased awareness and education on the disease, and highlighted the importance of early aggressive treatment.
Professor Manfred from the Ludwig Maxmilians University, Germany said, " It is imperative that we approach RA as an epidemic crippling our society. The situation is getting worse and we need to understand that living successfully with RA begins with education."
Clinical studies on new medications such as Enbrel have indicated that it provides both rapid and sustained efficacy and is highly effective for symptom relief. It characterises ideal RA therapy by limiting functional disability and preventing joint destruction.
In addition, Prof. Manfred added, " The more you understand the benefits and potential drawbacks of each medication, the better prepared you will be to discuss your options with your doctor".
