The achievement comes only six years after FedEx opened its Dubai hub, initially scheduling 24 flight departures a month. This number has more than doubled to 56 as a result of the expanding volume of air trade in the Middle East. According to Boeing, shipments into, within and out of the region represent approximately 5.1% of the world's air cargo traffic in terms of tonnage . FedEx Dubai operates flights six days a week, serviced by both A310-300 and MD11 aircraft, helping key industry sectors in the economy which thrive on moving exports quickly.
"It is a testament to the dedication of our entire Dubai team that we have developed this service so rapidly. Without their hard work and commitment we would not have been able to reach this landmark number of flights in such a short period of time," said Hamdi Osman, Regional Vice President, FedEx Middle East,
Indian Sub-Continent and Africa. "It also confirms the increasing importance of this region in the world economy.
This latest accomplishment is one of many for FedEx Dubai in recent times. Faced with competition from 49 other international FedEx operations, FedEx Dubai has won the company's International Ramp of the Year award for the fifth year in succession. It has also been granted four consecutive "Audit Aces" awards by FedEx headquarters for the efficiency and accuracy of its procedures.
FedEx Dubai has also been recognised for its ongoing commitment to service quality and the environment with the following awards:
•Dubai Quality Award (including two awards in the Gold category) and the Dubai Cargo Village Environmental Awareness Award for three consecutive years
•Sheikh Khalifa Gold Award for Excellence received twice
•'Investors in People' certification received from the Department of Economic Development
•Membership to the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme in recognition of its high standards of customer service and staff development
