- PRESS RELEASE
Mr Khalifa Al Zaffin, Director, Engineering Projects, Department of Civil Aviation Dubai, welcomed a 12-member Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) senior management team visited Dubai International Airport on a two-day benchmarking trip on August 9th 2004.
The KLIA delegation were shown a special presentation on US $ 4.1 billion Dubai International Airport expansion programme and later given a site tour. The delegation comprised of three groups - commercial, IT and airport operations and service. Each of the groups met with the respective counterparts at DCA.
This benchmarking trip by KLIA was based on the fact that Dubai International Airport won the AETRA (formerly known as the IATA Global Airport Monitor) awards earlier this year. Dubai International Airport won top spot in three different categories - Best Airport Worldwide, Best in Regional Ratings (Middle East/Africa) and Best Airport Size Ratings (over 15 million passengers).
Over the last few years, Dubai International Airport has emerged not just the premier airport in the region but also the busiest. Half yearly statistics for 2004 show a healthy 27% growth in passenger movement as compared to last year. Total number of passengers registered at 10,413,782 in the first half of 2004 as compared to 8,189,209 in 2003. Dubai Cargo Village also registered a 21.7% growth having handled 535,212 tonnes of cargo while aircraft movement has shown a growth of 18.5% with a total of 94,795 movements in the six months ending June 2004 as compared with 79,990 movements last year.
