Siemens Information and Communication Mobile (Siemens mobile) will provide delivery and installation of all the infrastructure components for setting up the network.

The order for Siemens mobile comprises turnkey delivery and installation of switching technology, mobile transmission and receiving stations (base stations), Intelligent Networks (IN) and GPRS hardware and software components for the Telenor network in southern Pakistan.

"The order from Telenor as a new customer is a further success for us as a mobile equipment provider in an interesting Pakistan market that offers much potential. Only around three percent of the 141 million-strong population use mobile telephony", said Mr. Soenke Peters, Vice President and Head of Siemens mobile networks, Middle East.

The new order further strengthens Siemens mobile's position in Pakistan. Siemens mobile is currently working with a number of operators in the region to upgrade existing 2G and 2.5G networks and install new 3G networks in order for them to offer more services to their subscribers. Additionally it has facilitated customer's growth with installation of base stations, allowing them to reach new subscribers in previously remote areas.

"Strengthening relationships with key players is inherent to our strategy for the Middle East and Pakistan," said Peters. We strongly believe in the potential growth of our local and regional partners and actively support their development strategies which ultimately mean more sophisticated and diversified services for the end user," he added.

Telenor Pakistan is a 100% subsidiary of Telenor Mobile, headquartered in Oslo, Norway. The mobile provider acquired one of the new mobile licenses in Pakistan in May of this year. Telenor Mobile has mobile operations in 12 countries around the world and over 35 million subscribers on a 100% basis.
