In a move to ensure readers in the Middle East have sufficient information about Gitex Dubai, being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre October 14-18, 2001, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has named Asharq Al-Awsat as the official Arabic language publication for the exhibition.

The publication is an Arabic daily with a circulation of 235,000. This marks the first time the organisers have taken a step to enhance the flow of information about the event to Arabic readers, which is directed at a broad range of potential exhibitors and visitors.

"We are delighted to be working with the Saudi Research & Publishing Company to further enhance our communications activities. Asharq Al-Awsat is a prominent publication that is well-read and respected throughout the Arab world. Appointing it as the official Arabic publication for GITEX will help us improve our penetration in Arab market with news and information about the event," said Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Corporate Manager, Exhibitions at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Asharq Al-Awsat is one of 15 publications which form part of the Saudi Research & Publishing Company (SRPC), a commercial enterprise with offices in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The company publishes several daily newspapers which reach a broad range of Middle East residents. Its dailies include Arriyadiyah, Al-Eqtisadiah, Arab News, Malayalam News, Urdu News and Aalam Alriyadah. It also publishes weekly magazines, including Bassem, Sayidaty, Al-Jadeeda, Al-Majalah, Al-Jamila and Urdu magazine. Monthly publications include Hia and Arrjol.

"Asharq Al-Awsat is one of the leading publications in the pan-Arab world and we are confident that this arrangement will help the DWTC achieve its goal of further expanding understanding and awareness of Gitex Dubai. We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with the organisers to support them in this task and trust the arrangement will also ensure our readers are kept up-to-date on new IT developments in the region," said Helmi Zahid, Executive Director of the Saudi Research & Publishing Company's fourth publishing centre based in Dubai Media City.
