- PRESS RELEASE
With the demand for armoured vehicles on the increase, DaimlerChrysler Middle East has responded with the introduction of a special protection version of the popular new Dodge Durango.
"From the outside it is hard to tell that the difference between the standard and armoured Durango," said Bruce Ohms, Director, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Middle East. "Only an expert could tell that the car was particularly thick skinned."
The high protection Dodge Durango is manufactured by Armortek, Dallas, Texas. The company has been building specialist vehicles for the US government and security companies at home and worldwide for 25 years.
Unlike many companies, Armortek guts the vehicle and armours it from the inside out paying special attention to traditionally vulnerable areas such as door hinges, locks and firewalls.
The Durango's standard HEMI V8 340 horespower engine is more than capable of taking the extra weight of the new vehicle. Only modifications to the suspension are required to improve the ride and handling.
"Armortek is continually testing new materials, new grades of steel and all vehicle components to achieve optimal protection," added Ohms.
In a move to expand the range of protected Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, DaimlerChrysler Middle East is currenty working with Armortek on producing B6 and B7 versions of the Durango, Chrysler 300C luxury sedan and selected Dodge RAM trucks.
The armoured Durango is available to special order through Dodge agents across the Middle East.
