The statement came after a joint meeting between the two parties in Amman, Jordan and was announced today at the 'Iraq Oil & Gas - Amman' workshop.

Dr Mostafa Bazergan, a founder member of the IBBC, stated "after a series of meetings in Amman, Baghdad and London, and in order to reflect the commercial focus and secure the full support of the business community, the organisation will be operating in both London, UK and Baghdad, Iraq under the name of the Iraqi-British Business Council (IBBC)."

He added that the main function of the IBBC is to entrench the bilateral commercial relationship between the two countries, thus enabling UK businesses to have a larger role in the process of rebuilding Iraq.

Dr Bazergan, who is also the chairman of Iraq Infosearch, stated that he expected the Iraqi-British Business Council (IBBC) to have an important share in the rebuilding of Iraq. It will also open opportunities for Iraqi businessmen to participate in the process of rebuilding their own country with the help of their British partners.

The IBBC has attracted the support of various global chambers of commerce, including the Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, as well as the global business community as a whole.
