The solution is built together with Zealand Care, one of the biggest providers of healthcare services in Denmark.

"Using MobileCare on Nokia Communicators makes us much more flexible and effective, enabling us to save money on our supply staff account," says Signe Karstoft from the Municipality of Borkop. "Since we are able to plan and carry out our work day much more efficiently we can make more visits each day, helping us deliver better healthcare to our citizens."

"Local authorities provide public welfare services with a day-to-day human face. Improving the effectiveness of these employees translates directly into more time spent with their clients and less administrative burden.

More can be achieved with constant resources," said Tarek Ghouri, Director,Government Practice, Nokia Enterprise Solutions. "We are pleased that the Nokia Communicator was chosen by Excitor and Municipality of Borkop as it proves that businesses and public sector alike can improve their performance through extended mobility."

The MobileCare system allows nurses and care workers to download daily visit information and route it directly to their Communicators without visiting the office, saving time and giving staff more flexibility. In addition, nurses have access to patient prescription cards and files via the Communicator.

When developing the system, security was given a high priority due to the sensitive nature of the information handled by the Nokia Communicator. The data stored and sent between the Nokia Communicator and the central care system is encrypted. In addition, employees must log in using personal usernames and passwords.

"The nurses can call the doctor from a patient's home and turn on the conference call function so the patient can hear what is being said," said sales director Karsten Viuf from Excitor. "If medication is needed, the prescription can be keyed directly into the patient's medicine card on the Communicator," All this makes the work of healthcare professionals more productive in addition to increasing the trust between the patient and the staff."

Danish software company Excitor developed the solution on the Nokia Communicator because of its keyboard and user-friendly interface. MobileCare is based on Dynamic Mobile Exchange (DME) technology, which Excitor has been developing for the past three years.
