- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 26 - 2002 at 08:57
- PRESS RELEASE
METITO, the international water and wastewater treatment experts, has completed work on a Dhs. 14 million contract to build a desalination plant at the Port of Fujairah that will supply fresh water to ships and barges and help to preserve the scarce water resources of the United Arab Emirates.
The sea water desalination plant utilising reverse osmosis technology constructed in Fujairah Port has the capability to directly pump fresh drinking water on to ships and barges that dock at the east coast port.
METITO (Overseas) Ltd. Managing Director Fady Juez explains: "A crucial part of the services offered by major international ports is the provision of fresh drinking water to vessels which dock at them. But in a region like the United Arab Emirates where water is such a scarce resource, supplying such a quantity of water can impact on the reserves for the local population.
"METITO has been proud to help the Port of Fujairah to tackle that problem by building a new desalination plant where we treat the abundant supply of sea water and convert it to drinking water which is now being supplied to the ships and barges which use the port."
Fujairah Fresh Water Productions Co. Ltd. Chairman, Eng. Khamis Alnoon said: "We are delighted with the world-class system that METITO has designed and built for us here at the Port of Fujairah. It provides the perfect solution to supplying water to vessels using the port in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner."
The scope of work for the project included turn key design, engineering, fabrication supply, installation, commissioning, full operation, preventive maintenance and all electrical, mechanical and civil engineering components of the work undertaken.
