This represents a five percent aggregate growth compared to year 2003 sales during the same period. The Group's retail members reported incremental business ranging up to 40 percent.
Tawhid Abdullah, Chairman of DGJG says; 'Each year the summer promotion is one of our most high profile and anticipated initiatives among both consumers and traders - this year's was no different. This year the outcome has been exceptionally successful with commendable growth for member outlets and Dubai's gold and jewellery traders who enjoyed their busiest summer on record owing to the 'Dubai - The Jewellery Destination Of The World' campaign. This campaign envisages the vision of the Dubai government and DGJG in positioning the emirate as the jewellery destination of the world.'
The summer promotion included a range of innovative giveaways, most substantially a 10 weekly draw of 10 kilos of gold, the potential to Scratch & Win thousands of gold coins and 'Win Back Half your purchase'. All the prizes amounted to AED 1.2 million comprising 17.5 kilos of gold.
The summer campaign, DGJG's largest to date, drew shoppers from around the world as DGJG lure visitors with a succession of tempting offers and giveaways. Shoppers from around the world, including Syria, Canada, India, the UK and Bangladesh won various prizes in the promotions by buying jewellery from the participating outlets.
The response among the member outlets to the gold promotion has been very encouraging, and as Dileep Popley, Managing Director of Popley Kewalram Jewellers reports, resulted in sales surges of up to 30 percent, 'Our offers during the promotional periods of DSS have broken previous year's records. DGJG's efforts to increase sales in the Gold Souk and tourist flow into the country are showing positive results and we support them fully in their endeavours.'
Similarly, Mr. Haroon from Indus Jewellers, also reported a 20-30 percent increase in sales, despite what he says is often a slower time for his business; 'Compared to the same period last year, there has been an additional rise of 10-15 percent. We are very happy with the kind of initiatives that are being taken by DGJG to promote trade during summer which is known to be very quiet.'
Dubai has now emerged as a great holiday destination even during the hot summer months and campaigns such as Dubai - The Jewellery Destination Of The World and Dubai Summer Surprises are growing in popularity with the region's melting pot of nationalities.
Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group's summer promotion surpasses previous records
The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) has announced that sales figures for this summer promotion have surpassed all previous records with gold and jewellery sales of over AED 370 million from 254 participating outlets.
