New figures also showed that for the whole of 2003, 377,000 German passengers arrived from Frankfurt, Munich and Duesseldorf at Dubai International Airport, up by 21 per cent on the previous year.
Last month the DTCM hosted a workshop for 30 top German travel and tour operators for the second successive year. This reflected the strong interest in Dubai as an ideal year-round business and leisure destination, said officials. This four-day event was sponsored by Lufthansa, Madinat Jumeirah and Alpha Tours.
'The overwhelming response that the workshop generated has proved beyond doubt that Dubai is the favourite destination for Germans and their interest in the emirate remains as strong as years ago,' said DTCM Director Mohammad Khamis Bin Hareb.
'There is still huge potential to be tapped and we remain committed to benefiting from the tremendous opportunities.'
Dubai has aggressively targeted the German market in recent years with an on-the-spot marketing operation based in Frankfurt, and a high-profile PR campaign in the German media.
This year the programme attracted 130 applicants, and only 30 were selected who were all first-time visitors to Dubai.
According to a DTCM press release the number of German companies in Dubai has risen from 241 this year from just 77 in 1993, while the number of German companies in the Jebel Ali Free Zone is up from four to 106.

The first six months of 2004 saw a 67 per cent surge in visitors from Germany to Dubai by comparison with the same period a year earlier, reported the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
