Held over five days earlier this month at the Emirates Aviation College, the course involved a comprehensive overview of new and emerging threats against civil aviation.

Dr. Abdulla Al Hashimi, Senior Vice President of Emirates Group's Security department, which runs the academy, commented: 'It is recognised that the best way to heighten the barrier in security is by increasing the level of its awareness and stressing the maxim that 'security is everybody's business.'

'We hope that by holding courses such as this, which carries industry and academic recognition, it will inspire more in the industry to go beyond the basics to understand the integral role that security plays in the aviation industry.'

The course has been certified by the Abu Dhabi-based GCAA (General Civil Aviation Authority) to have met all the requirements outlined in ICAO Annex 17 and ICAO Doc 8973 for safeguarding International Civil Aviation, and was the first of many to be organised by Transguard Education Academy. In addition, the course is accredited by Edith Cowan University of Perth, Western Australia, which earns the participants credit points equivalent to the first module of the Diploma in Aviation Security Management.

Those participating travelled from eight countries: Germany, Ireland, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Philippines, Oman and the UAE.
