Unique world-class entertainment launched to celebrate opening of BurJuman extension
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, September 25 - 2004 at 10:10
- PRESS RELEASE
A unique international entertainment programme featuring world-class troupes, orchestras and artistes has been launched at BurJuman Centre, as part of the on-going celebrations marking the opening of the mall's massive extension on September 21.
A stunning 6-piece classic orchestra will perform in conjunction with a 6-member Jazz band, as well as separately throughout the mall. The 12 musicians in the classic and jazz orchestras are among the best instrumentalists in the United Kingdom. Also on the daily entertainment fare is a world-class dance troupe from the United Kingdom who perform dance fusions that blend the fashion capitals of the world with ballet, jazz and classical dance.
Visitors will be held spellbound by a bungee artist performing as a 'conductor' for the orchestra and band. Suspended from a bungee cord and trapeze in the main atrium of the new mall, he bounces between the two groups, as they perform on the first and second levels. The bungee artist also performs additional acts in other parts of the mall.
Delia Du Sol, one of Britain's top specialty entertainers, is an expert contortionist, aerialist and acrobat who performs with extreme flexibility, motion and grace. This silk and trapeze artist will carry out a series of aerial acts and displays on silk ropes and trapeze cables, and also stage her world-famous contortion act. Two stilt performers dressed in a selection of spectacular costumes entertain visitors in the mallways, where colourful parades will add to the excitement at BurJuman.
An incredible team of jugglers from the Gandini Juggle Troupe perform a mix of elegant dance and juggling routines in addition to engaging visitors through innovative ways, such as filling the air with vibrant colourful balls that trace fleeting mesmeric patterns.
Loki, who has been adjudged the U.K. Magic Circle's Magician of the year in 2003 and 2004 performs close up magic and illusion never witnessed in this region before, as he interacts with the audience in the food court areas. Beautifully produced and presented, his performance is a magical fairytale, and features fast-paced and bright acts with props and stage furniture that are almost surreal in their design. He works silently in classic mime to specially arranged orchestral music which gives his performance complete international appeal.
The magical finale is a beautiful and touching routine where Loki ingeniously and progressively creates a snowfall throughout the entire venue. From the simple beginnings of a child's tiny snow globe, he produces thousands of snowflakes from his empty hands, which carry high up in the air. This dramatic effect is not created with paper confetti but is a water-based substance that falls, feels, settles and gently melts away - just like real snow. Even adults will become children for awhile, as they are caught up in this fantastic illusion from a great magician.
Sabina Khandwani, Head of Research and Marketing at BurJuman Centre, said: "The high quality, the variety and uniqueness of the entertainment package fits well with our strategy to promote the new BurJuman as a top international luxurious shopping destination that not only enriches the shopping experience but also makes it memorable in the minds of visitors. With so many people from different nationalities visiting the mall everyday, BurJuman is proud to present this fantastic programme that will help further enhance its position as a truly international world-class mall".
With the opening of the extension, BurJuman has become the most significant part of the retail landscape in the region. The extension has increased to more than 300 the number of international brands at BurJuman led by the world-famous fashion store , Saks Fifth Avenue, which will anchor the re-developed mall.
Other world renowned brands at BurJuman include Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Hugo Boss, House of Ferre, Fendi, Alfred Dunhill, CK Jeans, Christian Dior, Chanel, Villeroy & Boch, Prada, Van Cleef & Arpels, Longines, Omega, Tag Heuer, Baume & Mercier, Mont Blanc, Armand Bassi, Loewe, Laura Ashley, Porsche Design, Burberry, Ungaro, Valentino, Etro, DKNY, and Mont Blanc, among others.
