Intel to preview the laptop as the ultimate fashion accessory at GITEX
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, September 26 - 2004 at 13:55
- PRESS RELEASE
Intel today announced that it will showcase two limited edition decorative 'skins' from its recent collaboration with International fashion designer Roland Mouret to transform conventional looking laptops into stylish objects of desire.
The Roland Mouret Laptop Skins for Intel are easily fastened to the lid of most laptops, but especially complement the latest thin and light Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology enabled laptops.
"The Roland Mouret Laptop Skins for Intel are designed to compliment the new generation of chic, smart and connected laptops powered by Intel Centrino mobile technology. Women in the Middle East are increasingly embracing technology and a more mobile lifestyle and by working with Roland Mouret and bringing these designs to GITEX right after their launch, Intel is showing that technology can be a stylish and natural to fit with the lives of our users in this region" said Aysegul Ildeniz, Intel's regional director for the Middle East Turkey and Africa
The two designs are part of three models designed by Mouret as variations on a pattern used extensively in his latest Cruise collection (a collection inspired by luxury travel), which will be in store from November 04. The Cruise collection, made up of elegant and light clothes for travel, perfectly complements Intel Centrino mobile technology enabled laptops, which deliver on the move access to essential contacts, information and entertainment.
"I was interested in making laptops more personal for the people I design for, allowing them to build a relationship with their laptop and make it their own. My recent Cruise collection was the first time that I have introduced a print to my collections and it was really interesting to take the print to another medium and give the laptop a luxury feel." said Roland Mouret.
In creating the designs Mouret has chosen materials that work in sympathy with current laptop designs- typically black, white or chrome.
The Laptop Skins have been created in three variations and different sizes to fit the widest possible range of laptops:
- Swarovski* crystal: a monochrome variation covered in a thin layer of Swarovski crystals; creating a shimmering jeweled effect.
- Red: a striking red variation of the pattern printed on metallic material and covered with a protective film layer
- Stone: a subtler version of the same pattern in metallic green and grey
"The customers I design for use the tools of progress, such as laptops, to add to their identity - so technology is important to them. The designs were strongly influenced by the 20's Art Deco period. Art deco was about the fusion of natural and technological influences in elegant patterns which fits perfectly with the laptop skin concept." added Mouret.

About Roland Mouret
Over the last three years Roland Mouret has firmly established himself as a leading light in international design. With awards including British Designer of the Year at the Elle Style Awards*, and the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Cutting Edge* award and a record three nominations at the Lycra British Fashion* awards, including designer of the year, his work is recognised and praised both within and outside the industry for its originality and his unique vision of women's sensuality.
Roland continues to draw upon his eclectic background for his inspiration and creative perspective. Born in 1961 in Lourdes, this son of a French butcher has emerged from the fashion scenes of Paris and London working as an artistic director, model and stylist. He presented his first collection during London Fashion Week in February 1998 and received huge critical acclaim, with Collezioni giving him his first cover. Each of the fifteen one off pieces were hand made without patterns and constructed by skilfully folding and draping fabrics on the body held together by hat pins and stud fasteners.
Having initially been established as one of the leaders of the Demi-Couture movement, Roland has evolved his technique of draping and structure to meet the growing demands of modern ready to wear. His line encompasses tailoring, sportswear, knitwear, bags and accessories and he balances all of this with private commissions of one off pieces and the development and expansion of his RM Rough raw diamond jewellery range. June 2004 sees the launch of the first Roland Mouret Cruise Collection.
Roland's Autumn Winter 2004 collection was presented for the second time in New York whose audience was the best of the international press and buyers. With the collection now being stocked in leading stores worldwide including: Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Selfridges, Liberty, Browns, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Printemps and Louis Boston, along with a growing list of high profile celebrities vying for his designs, Roland's plan to establish his house internationally for the long term looks set to succeed.
