Australia's University of Southern Queensland launches Dubai Campus

Australia's University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Bill Lovegrove, launched the university's Dubai Campus at Knowledge Village this morning.
Orientation Days for prospective students and their parents will be held from 25 to 27 September and Professor Lovegrove is hoping to meet students and parents during his stay. The first intake of students is on Saturday, 2 October 2004.
"I am excited by the life-long learning opportunities that we will be able to offer the people of the Gulf region via the University's internationally recognised, flexibly delivered degree and diploma programs," Professor Lovegrove said.
"USQ already has 410 students enrolled in the Gulf region, including 294 from the United Arab Emirates, and we look forward to providing a world-class learning experience to many more students from the region at USQ's Dubai Campus."
Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, CEO, Knowledge Village (KV) welcomed USQ in Dubai: "The presence of USQ, one of the leading Australian universities, will considerably enrich the KV community. One of KV's key objectives is to create a destination for higher education institutions where international universities like USQ from around the world can provide their programs to students across the region. With its tremendous expertise in delivering quality education, USQ's offerings will help support this objective while adding immense value to the pool of offerings available in KV," he added.
Mr. Noel Campbell, Australian Ambassador to the UAE, welcomed the launch of USQ as another indicator of the increasing strength and diversity of relations between Australia and the United Arab Emirates. "It reflects Australia's excellent reputation as a serious and high quality education provider and reinforces the place of the Middle East as Australia's fastest growing market in the world for the export of goods and services."
The Orientation Days for USQ's Dubai students will include a range of activities designed to provide them with the essential knowledge to lay a solid foundation for university life. It will be an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the campus and staff, course and study requirements, and available courses and resources. Counselling will also be available from student enrolment staff.
A member of the organizing committee for the Orientation said a mix of academic and entertainment activities had been arranged including a Fresher's party, a personality contest for Mr. and Ms. Fresher 2004.
