The series of global vision awards was initiated at last year's Gitex exhibition in Dubai with a similar personal award presented to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, for his vision of a technology free zone initiative that has since had a major impact on the ICT industry in the region.
'This award marks the very significant contribution that His Majesty King Abdullah II has demonstrated to the development of a skills-driven, ICT-based economy for Jordan and the future of the Kingdom as part of the wider knowledge revolution in the Arab world,' commented CPI's Chief Executive Officer Dominic De Sousa, who presented the special award on behalf of CPI and IDG in a private ceremony, also attended by Queen Rania.
'What Jordan is achieving is nothing short of astounding,' continued De Sousa. 'Jordan isn't blessed with natural resources or a strong manufacturing base. Instead it has youth, energy and vision - those are the elements that His Majesty has harnessed in his drive to provide a very real future for his population, half of whom are under the age of 18.'
CPI is one of the UAE's leading publishing houses and regional partner of IDG, the world's leading technology media, research and event company.
