With its four fins surrounding a central pyramid, The Tower's crown segment utilizes more than 120 tons of steel and was created using Tekla's Xsteel solution, the industry-leading application for modelling and detailing of steel structures.

A key aspect of building The Towers' crowning glory was developing a complete materials list necessary for the unique structure, including the number and size of beams, nuts, bolts, and other construction materials. This comprehensive materials list, provided by Tekla's X-Steel solution, helps to ensure that a construction project like The Towers is completed within a set time and budget.

"With a complex structure like The Towers, it's a tremendous benefit to use technology that gives our engineers a 3-D perspective, and see firsthand how all of the different parts of the building can be integrated. Tekla's X-Steel solution also enabled EBS to deliver The Towers' crown with zero errors and defects in its fabrication and erection," noted Peter Bissett, Engineering Manager, EBS.

As the Middle East's construction industry becomes more competitive, engineering firms are finding that technology such as Tekla's gives them an advantage in the bidding process as they are able to forecast both construction schedules and costs more accurately. Networked and Internet-enabled solutions, including X-Steel, allow engineers to work separately but concurrently on different aspects of a building, and then aggregate the 3-D drawings from anywhere in the world via the Internet.

"Building owners across Middle East are competing to create increasingly complex and aesthetically dramatic structures, and these projects require technology that accurately reflects the costs and man-hours involved. Both time and money can be saved by utilizing solutions such as Tekla's X-Steel," added Bissett.

The Tower is the second project on which EBS and Tekla have collaborated - the fabrication company also deployed X-Steel in the design and fabrication of the Skywalk Bridge in Dubai. Tekla's technology is growing in popularity across the Middle East, and has been deployed in the construction of structures including the Abu Dhabi Trade Center, Dubai's new Grand Hyatt complex and the Kingdom Trade Center in Saudi Arabia.
