The company employs over 160 staff and contractors in joint venture with the Sharjah government that includes three gas condensate fields, a processing plant, gas compression facilities and two export terminals. It is the largest gas exporter in the UAE.

'Safety is a top priority in all aspects of our business and we are grateful for the full support we receive from Sharjah Petroleum Council and Shalco in helping us to achieve this milestone,' said Abdulkarim AlMazmi, President and General Manager of BP Sharjah.

'In addition to our daily production business we have also completed many major projects during the past six years, such as pioneering work in Coiled Tubing drilling techniques and unique innovations in environmental measures and plant integrity inspections, all without a single lost time accident. Safety should not be considered a cost but an investment that in the long term pays off financially as well as morally,' AlMazmi stated.

Dr Michael Daly, President of President of BP Middle East & Pakistan Buisness Unit, added: 'This is a remarkable achievement for BP Sharjah, particularly considering their diverse range of operations, varying from offshore loading to desert drilling, and the pioneering work they undertake. The Sharjah team have certainly lived up to BP's philosophy of 'No accidents, No harm to people and No damage to the environment'.'

BP, which employs in excess of 100,000 people in over 100 countries, operates strict health, safety and environmental codes of practice worldwide. Over the past 16 years the company has achieved a vast improvement in its safety records. Between 1987 and 2003 it has reduced its DAFWC by 94 per cent.
