Record first quarter sales for Dubai Duty Free

The month of March proved to be a record month as sales reached Dhs90.7 million (US$25 million) beating the previous monthly record of Dhs84.3 million (US$22.9 million) set in the same month last year. A new record for daily sales was also reached in the first quarter when, on February 21st, the shopfloor recorded sales of Dhs4.3 million (US$1.2 million).

The new figures are a positive indicator for Dubai Duty Free, which has set an ambitious sales target for the year.

Commenting on the latest figures, Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: "We have set a sales target of Dhs1 billion (US$277 million) for this year and the first quarter results put the operation well on track for achieving our target. The important thing now is to continually review and enhance the shopfloor operation to ensure that passengers enjoy a first class shopping experience in one of the best airport duty free operations in the world."

Shopping trends in the first quarter continue to place sales of Gold in the number one spot closely followed by perfumes. Electronics have moved into fourth place continuing the trend set in 2001 when sales of electronic goods increased by a massive 40% over the previous year.
