Samsung launches world's first USB-enabled Multifunction-device in GITEX 2004

Samsung Electronics, leader in digital imaging solutions, today launched in GITEX the world's first USB-enabled MFD (multifunction device), SCX-4720F, capable of directly scanning to and printing from a USB memory stick.

With the launch of the new Samsung MFD, a user can do without computers or monitors to store certain types of scanned images or print certain documents directly using a USB memory stick.

Mr. Koh, Senior Manager, Digital Information Technology Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics said: "The world's first USB-enabled MFD is a testimony of Samsung's commitment to deliver advanced and feature-rich laser multifunction products for different office environments. According to recent industry insights, there is a growing trend among consumers to use digital documents, with USB memory stick becoming the preferred device due to its easy-to-use and portable features. The new MFD, SCX-4720F, ideally fits into this market environment, making it that much easier for customers to simply scan and store their documents or images to USB memory."

Samsung also showcased a slew of new printing solutions including the world's smallest MFD, SCX-4100, designed to save on premium desktop space and an entry level laser printer, ML-1520, which is aimed at cost-conscious consumers currently compromising with inkjet printers due to lower costs.

"These innovative printing solutions from Samsung will definitely bring increased productivity at work," said Mr. K. S. Vasudevan, Senior Manager, Digital Information Technology division, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "Samsung's ability to own the design, development and manufacturing processes has enabled the company to offer customer-oriented features and technologies. As a result, Samsung's laser technology has been acknowledged to be the best worldwide last year, and we have been positioned as a market leader in laser printer market.

To satisfy various printing, faxing, copying and scanning needs for SOHO and Workgroup users, SCX-4720F series provides the fastest printing and scanning speed in its class up to 20 pages per minute (ppm). In addition to a fax feature, it also includes a high-speed 33.6 Kbps modem, 1.5 sec quick scanning, 200 speed dial, 40 one touch dial and a 50 sheet ADF to send and receive extensive documents.

With a fast speed of up to 14 pages per minute (ppm), SCX-4100 also provides various digital copying features to make multiple copies. It offers 250 pages of 8MB standard memory and comes equipped with Samsung's unique software SmarThru4TM, for efficient scanning and image distribution. The ML-1520 provides fast speed up to 14 pages per minute (ppm) and includes a 250-sheet cassette with robust standard memory of 8MB. It also supports USB 1.1 interface.
