The Oman Medical College is located, in Fohar, Oman which is 200 kilometers from their capital, Muscat. Currently, the College has 350 users and will expand to 1,500 users within four years. An IP solution was selected for two main reasons: one being that the Oman Medical College has an academic partnership with the University of West Virginia in the U.S. and they wanted to keep communication costs to a minimum, and the other being that the Oman Medical College has another location in Muscat and they plan to have a 2Mbps link between both locations enabling communication by dialing four-digit extension numbers.
Commenting on the HP ProCurve and Mitel IP Telephony system recently installed at the College, P. V. Shajan, IT System Administrator, Oman Medical College said, "after evaluating multiple options for Voice over IP from different vendors, we chose the HP ProCurve Networking and Mitel solution because of the good security between wired and wireless networks, as well as advanced features, benefits, greater performance and all importantly the continued total cost of ownership."
