Medical portal univadis.md announced its use of advanced Portal Builder (PB) technology, making it the only online medical source that can powerfully integrate various web environments and sources with utmost flexibility and ease for users.

Currently, it is using PB version 4.5 and will soon upgrade it to PB version 6 in 2005

Integrated into the PBv4.5 environment of univadis.md are the top web-based technologies including Oracle data basing, JavaScript Encoding and Microsoft Internet Server hosting. The flexibility of the PB infrastructure allows for seamless integration and coordination among all three platforms.

Having partnered with credible medical and information sources such as Reuters, and Science Press Internet Services, univadis.md has the capability to have timely updates because of its compatibility to the systems of the mentioned providers. This paves the way for univadis.md to carry the latest news and information on specialized and general medical subjects.

"Our PB technology gives univadis.md the professional quality that must characterize an online medical resource. This advanced technology allows us to provide health care professionals with high-quality content, as PBv4.5 is compatible with the web technology of our Top Medical Internet partners," said Nader Abou Chakra, Regional Marketing Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa for univadis.md.

The PB technology likewise allows univadis.md to segment the medical content into what is known as "Portal Content Boxes". With this facility, not only is a consistent and simple user interface created for the user, but 1 or more content boxes can be easily pushed or deleted to one or more users. A cardiologist for example, can view specialized content only on cardiology and other specialties don't have the same. The technology can divide users specifically to the professional information required.

"I went through univadis.md and my expectations were not only satisfied but surpassed by the availability of a huge archive of medical education, specifically through Pub Med Literature Finder. It gave me about 300,000 abstracts for one medical term that I typed. As a physician, it has given me the choice to filter the most relevant and credible online resources for my local patients," said univadis.md user Dr. Jamal Ali Jammal, an Internist from Dubai Physiotherapy Clinic.

The Portal Builder system involves the users to change the lay out and personalize the home page as desired. This gives the doctors the freedom to prioritize the content boxes they need to view per degree of importance to their fields of interests.

Moreover, doctors have the flexibility to change the specific contents they want to receive inside these boxes. In totality, users manipulate the portal's form or layout as well as its substance (content), thereby saving a lot of access time.

Dr. Rajagopal Chelanat, a consultant Physician at Medicare Clinic in Sharjah said: "Not only am I getting the benefit of diverse specialty news that will help me in my clinical practice, but I have also used the Personalization function on the home page to customize the layout of my Reuters content. In this scenario, I am able to access my interest news as soon as I enter the medical portal."

The portal builder system's technology gives univadis.md an open-mind character as it can provide not only specialty information but personal interests as well. This paves the way for the creation of customizable content boxes containing the users' personal choice of news like sports, politics, entertainment and others.

Dr. Rasha Al Za'abi, an Obstetrics and Gynecology specialist for the Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi said: "The information I receive from univadis.md has and continues to provide me with many news that not only aids in my clinical practice development but has placed me at a very competitive edge with colleagues in the same field."

"We help medical practitioners have all the information they need with one click. Doctors don't have the time to access different sites for different interests or purpose - univadis.md lays it all out for them. Each user can rightfully claim ownership of univadis.md as the home pages are created by them to suit their specific purpose," said Mr. Abou Chakra.
