IBM also showcased the recently announced Eternal Egypt project where teams from IBM and the Egyptian government have digitized thousands of cultural artifacts and created a special story-based content management system that delivers information in multiple languages to a rich interactive website, to PDA-based 'Digital Guides' at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and to mobile phones and devices.
"We believe that GITEX plays an important role in gathering vendors, channel partners, end user organizations and individuals together to share ideas. It gives us the opportunity to liaise with the industry and allows visitors to find out more about the latest technologies that will shape the future of this region," said Samer Shaar, general manager, IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan. "This year's show was certainly no exception."
IBM also unveiled details on a large-scale migration project with eHosting DataFort, the region's leading hosting facility based at Dubai Internet City, as well as a multi-million dollar deal with Ettihad Etisalat through its business partner in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Business Machines (SBM).
