CO-OP ISLAMI completes huge storage expansion

CO-OP ISLAMI, the region's top halal producer and retailer, today completed an ambitious expansion plan to bring into use new warehousing and logistics support to meet the growing demand for its products throughout the GCC.

Its new warehouses have now become operational and have hugely increased its storage capacity especially for frozen food.

CO-OP ISLAMI has increased warehouse storage capacity in Abu Dhabi from 110 to 150 tons. It has built a new warehouse in Al Ain with a gross storage capacity of 140 ton. Its warehouses in Dubai have seen their storage capacity increased by 150 per cent, to reach 300 tons. The warehouses in Khor Fakkan were expanded from 50 to 100 tons. In total the storage capacity of the company's different warehouses has jumped 146 per cent, from 280 to 690 tons.

To enhance the logistic support services' potential, CO-OP ISLAMI expanded its refrigerated truck fleet, bringing in 10 new trucks to increase its to 50 with a loading capacity that varies from 3.5 to 14 tons.

Saleh Abdulla Lootah, Assistant General Manager of CO-OP ISLAMI Operations, said: "We are committed to providing the best quality produce that is, at the same time, totally in compliance with Islamic Shariah principles. Our commitment to providing real halal food has made us a huge success with the local and regional markets."

He added: "Demand for CO-OP ISLAMI's products has seen a 20 per cent year on year growth throughout the GCC. Our frozen chicken product has elevated our products to a highly prestigious position in the market and we now have a 30 per cent market share of this product in the region."

CO-OP ISLAMI offers more than 150 fresh and frozen food products, including fresh and frozen chicken, chicken pieces, fresh and frozen meat products such as burgers and sausages, and frozen vegetables and cheese.

The producer is committed to the branding of its products as The Real Halal, based on Islami Shariah principles. The halal element is involved at all stages of production of its goods and influences even the food intake of its chickens, which is guaranteed to be 100 per cent vegetable. Supervision is undertaken by representatives in each of its production units.
