  • PRESS RELEASE

Forty six UAE nationals have recently joined Citibank ranks and have been placed in a rigorous 3-month intensive program at the Citibank Academy during which they will receive a mix of focused academic and practical training.

The new hires will rotate in three different departments during their hands-on training, spending 10 days in each department. The training program covers the fields of banking, finance, credit, leadership, sales, teamwork, management and customer service. Training will immediately be followed by job placements in different departments of the bank.

The first group of trainees, consisting of 24 students, has already graduated and has taken up full time assignments. Fatima Abdulaziz, a graduate of the first group who is currently working in the bank's Trade Operations department, said: "Citibank is a school of knowledge where you gain a lot of information. I am grateful to the instructors as well as to my fellow staff for giving me this opportunity to study and work at Citibank."

Another graduate of the same group, Amna Salbookh, who holds a Computer Information Processing Diploma from the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), said: " The Citibank Academy is the first big step that I've taken to add value to my future. I have learned so many details about banking and finance as well as the use of English language in banking." Amna joined CitiPhone so she can "constantly learn about new products and services and handle customer service inquiries."

"Citibank's growth plans in the UAE depend to a large extent on the deployment of the right local talent at the right positions. Therefore, we are constantly adding new talent who receive the best in-house academic and practical training," said Rajeev Kakar, Regional Head for Citibank's Consumer Bank in Turkey, Middle East & Africa, who is based in the UAE. "Our efforts are also in line with Citigroup's global drive to provide financial education to the local communities we work at."

Recently, Citigroup and the Citigroup Foundation announced a 10-year, $200 million global financial education commitment, the formation of a new Office of Financial Education and a global initiative designed to encourage its 275,000 employees around the world to devote time to support financial education and other charitable causes. Under the new initiative, employees may take a day off from work to volunteer for non-profit organizations in their communities.
