ETA PPD was the first major company to enter the newly created Palm Island when it won the substation contract last year. With its diverse range of subsidiaries, parent company ETA-ASCON Group will provide a range of additional contracting services as work on the mega-project continues.

ETA PPD substations are located at the Crown (Yabri), the Trunk (Lulu), the Crescent North (Hilali) and the Crescent South (Fardh). Building works are progressing rapidly at all substations. ETA PPD is the only locally based company with the capability to take up such a sophisticated power transmission network on Turnkey basis and is often the first contractor on the scene at some of Dubai's biggest projects.

With various divisions in the group, ETA-ASCON's involvement in The Palm does not end with electricity provision. ASCON is performing civil construction and the Gulf District Cooling Company (GDC) is installing air conditioning and ventilation. Low voltage switchgears and protection panels will be supplied by ETA Power and Control Systems Division (ETA PCS) and the 132kV cabling works will be carried out by ETA Electric Co.

ETA ASCON's association with The Palm dates to the signing in 2003 by its Gulf District Cooling Co. of a contract setting up a joint venture with Nakheel to create The Palm District Cooling Co., which will provide centrally sourced air conditioning and ventilation for Palm-based accommodations.
