The Conference, entitled "Advancing Technology in the GCC: Challenges and Solutions", will focus on the technological challenges faced by the Electrical and Electronic industry segments in the Middle East.

The scope of the Conference will include addressing the relevant technology advancements in the electrical and electronic (E&E) sector in the Gulf region, highlighting, in particular, the challenges faced in the actual implementation of these new technologies; expanding on the outstanding business opportunities available to the E&E sector in the Gulf region, due to increased regional investment in ICT infrastructures; bridging the gap between technological innovations available and the actual demand from regional investors; and presenting specialists and market leader opinions on evolving market needs within the Gulf region.

The conference will also endeavour to create new opportunities for development and growth via business networking among the most important companies and representatives of the various relevant industries in the Gulf region. With participants including Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of major international and regional organisations, entrepreneurs, government representatives and other leaders and decision-makers, along with industry professionals and researchers the Conference will also provide the opportunity for intense peer-to-peer interaction with the aim to identifying solutions to regional technological challenges.

According to Muhammad I. Al-Dhamen, Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, "Constant innovation in any technological field never takes place in the isolation of research labs. The contribution of industry professionals, market forces and on-ground demand helps refine the relevance of cutting-edge technologies. The IEEE Conferences provide the forum for such peer-to-peer interaction. The 'Advancing Technology in the GCC: Challenges and Solutions' theme for the 2nd IEEE GCC Conference is a reflection of the role that information and communication technologies is increasingly playing in the region, maximizing the opportunities for growth, safeguarding the serene transition to a new, prosperous era and securing the integration of the Gulf countries. I am confident that this forum will play an important role in the region's flourishing technological growth."

"The Middle East economies have matured to the point where it is no longer enough to induct cutting edge technologies developed in the West. As advanced technology becomes a way of life, user corporations are being faced with challenges that are unique to the regional context," said Ahmed Ali Ashadawi, President and CEO, Al-Falak. "These might involve a series of diverse factors, including electricity services that form the essential core of applications ranging from IT systems to manufacturing processes; advanced communication systems that must co-exist with legacy models; and the veritable abundance of eServices, ranging from eGovernance to eLearning, fields where technology has preceded user knowledge and comfort of use."

"In this context the 2nd IEEE GCC Conference has an important role to play in developing regional strategies to promote a synergized approach to technology adoption and customization for the Middle East," added Ashadawi. "Over the years, as a long established player in the region's Information and Communications Technology market, Al-Falak has faced its own share of challenges and achieved unprecedented successes in technology integration. It is important that this experience be shared with industry peers, professional engineers, researchers and corporate decision makers."

Besides the Platinum sponsorship of the event, Al-Falak will also present a series of papers detailing advanced solutions to challenges faced by organisations investing in ICT implementation.
