'Practical Phone-users' are a keen group of mobile users that seek well-designed, quality-filled, no-nonsense products from trusted brands; they don't need the top-of-the range phones with all features, because their predominant communication style is voice.

The T290 will be launched in China and Asia Pacific early 2005, and will reach the global market and Dubai during the first quarter of the year.

"The T290 is an entry-level phone with rich features that encompasses the same classical, elegant style we have in all our Sony Ericsson products," said Husni Al-Assi, General Manager of Sony Ericsson, Middle East. "This model is for customers who are looking for quality, simplicity and value-for-money. These customers use their mobiles mostly to make calls and use SMS text messaging to communicate extensively with friends and family. Independent small business owners may also be attracted to the T290 as its a cost-effective way of keeping in touch with customers whilst on the move."

The mobile's small size, phonebook with a 200 name capacity, MMS messaging in color, and solid styling will make the T290 attractive right across the 'Practical Phone-user' segment, but will also appeal to the younger market and those looking for a value-for-money phone to support their private businesses.

T290's value-for-money package includes a 32 tones polyphonic ringer with an additional speaker for loud and clear ring tones that can be heard on the busiest of all streets. It also has a 4K color screen, an additional speakerphone for conference calls used privately or professionally, and fast SMS text messaging with predictive text input on a clear and ergonomically designed keypad. All of this is packaged in a slim, classic design, available in a range of exciting colors and includes an easy to use joystick for simple navigation.
