Clearer pictures; better contrast; richer, more intense colours; technology smart enough to remove blur from high-speed action shots and enhance even the most detailed DVD are highlights of the new TV.

What's more, this combination comes with additional technology that makes watching TV not just fun, but actually relaxing for the eyes.

"The phrase 'see it to believe it' has been redefined by Philips in its 2004 range of Philips FlatTVs. Equipped with Pixel Plus 2, the latest version of Philips' award-winning image enhancement technology, as well as Ambilight, a unique ambient lighting technology, consumers will experience a totally new way of watching TV - one that might even keep them glued to their TV sets," said Khalid Tuer, Philips Regional General Manager, Middle East and Africa.

An improvement on its acclaimed predecessor, Pixel Plus 2 creates even sharper, more detailed pictures with a greater impression of depth than any other image enhancement technology. Pixel Plus 2 takes a signal from anywhere - terrestrial television, cable, DVD, digital TV - and applies one of the most advanced digital processors available in the consumer market with a unique suite of 17 different image processing improvements.

Movies appear crisper and sharper with the 3D Digital Combfilter and 3D Digital Noise Reduction, which make images brighter and improve colours while retaining sharpness. Sports viewing is more exciting with Digital Natural Motion, a technology that detects blurring caused by movement, and ensures a sharp and steady image from start to finish.

The Luminance Transient Improvement increases the number of pixels and lines, so that images displayed are finer and even more detailed than the original source, while a set of dynamic colour enhancements improve the depth and intensity of all coloured areas of the screen.

Then there's Active Control Plus, which analyses incoming signals and automatically adjusts the settings to offer optimal picture quality - even taking into account the room's ambient light - for truly amazing results: more realistic, more natural and more consistent images, regardless of viewing conditions.

Complementing the superb clarity that Pixel Plus 2 brings to TV viewing, is Philips' Ambilight ambient lighting technology. This totally unique Philips technology enhances the TV and the viewing atmosphere by projecting background lighting built into the back of the TV onto the wall behind the set. This provides a soft 'glow' around the TV set and enables the eye to see pictures clearly and without straining. Ambilight uses its inbuilt intelligence to generate any colour and level of light intensity to match the content being shown on the screen. As well, viewers can use the remote control to customise the colour and intensity of the light emitted or choose from four fixed and two special active preset modes.

Ambilight also couples with an external light sensor to determine the level of light in a room and adjust the TV light output accordingly.
