"Think Pink" is the theme of the competition, which is focusing on the colour pink in line with the colour of the global campaign dedicated to breast cancer awareness. The contest is open to all residents in the UAE with the first prize winner receiving a world-class digital camera LS743 from Kodak plus shopping vouchers from BurJuman. The 2nd and 3rd prize winners will also receive Kodak cameras. The closing date for submitting entries on Kodak paper 5" x 7" is November 10, 2004.

Sabina Khandwani, Head of Research and Marketing at BurJuman, said: "This unique and exciting competition will help raise more awareness of breast cancer and our efforts to bring about better understanding of the disease within the UAE population. BurJuman is happy to receive the support of Kodak, a leader in its field, to help put the spotlight on this life-threatening disease. We are confident that this competition, which is the first of its kind in support of breast cancer awareness, will generate tremendous interest and attract entries from different age groups".

Nada Al Terkawi of Kodak, said: "Kodak is committed to contributing to make BurJuman's breast cancer awareness campaign a huge success this year. We are promoting this photography competition across the UAE through schools and art centres in addition to our outlets so that we can target the widest possible audience to spread the key messages of the Safe and Sound campaign, and to further enhance the creative skills of photographers in the country".

Details of the competition are also available at the information counters on Level 1 of BurJuman Centre. Selected entries will go on display at BurJuman after the results are announced.

Kodak joined BurJuman's other prestigious Safe & Sound partners, Welcare Hospital, EPPCO/ENOC, and Johnson and Johnson at this year's campaign.

Safe & Sound is a nationwide drive undertaken by BurJuman for the last six years during the month of October to fight the incidence of breast cancer in the UAE. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in females with a staggering one in eight women worldwide now believed to be at risk from breast cancer. In the 1940s, a woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer was 1 in 22. Experts predict that in a few years this figure could jump to one in three due to a number of factors that precipitate the disease.

A key message given by the exclusive campaign undertaken by BurJuman every year is that if detected at an early stage breast cancer can be treated and cured. Early detection increases the survival rate for breast cancer from 18 percent to 93 per cent. So, every woman should know that regular self-examination is important.
