- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) today set in motion a new initiative to adopt international standards in the electronics industry.
Mr. Waleed al Mansouri, the General Manager of ESMA, said: "This new committee was formed as part of ESMA's strategy to set up the Emirates Standards Project. This involves creating special technical committees of experts and professionals in the scientific and technical fields who are well versed in international standards and their application."
ESMA's aim in creating the Committee is to improve safety in the industry and monitor developments in the technologies that are a vital part of everyday life. Mr. Al Mansouri added: "Committee members were selected from different government bodies to represent all parts of the sector, including the Ministries of Electricity and Water and their authorities.
"The Committee will focus on preparing, reviewing and updating the standard of products and appliances, ways of testing them, and codes and definitions. It will be responsible for setting up, implementing and following up plans approved by ESMA in designing project standards for electrical and electronic appliances," he added.
The NTCEEPSS meeting comes after the committee regulations were approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Deputy Ruler and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, and Chairman of the National Technical Committee for Electric and Electronic Products Sector Standards.
The committee also studied the setting up, implementing and updating of a number of the standards and the adoption of international standards. It also covered the committee working scheme, participation in meetings and the working agenda of the standards committees at the local, regional and international level.
