In a respectful homage to His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the organizers of the inaugural Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) have announced that the section of the official program entitled 'Operation Cultural Bridge', as well as the DIFF's closing red carpet gala screening, will be dedicated to honor the memory of the first President and founding father of the UAE.

The management of the festival plans to change the name of the program to 'Operation Cultural Bridge: A Tribute to His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan' and make this a permanent fixture of the festival for years to come.

'The theme running throughout the DIFF of building cultural bridges through tolerance and intercultural dialogue is fully consistent with His Highness Sheikh Zayed's legacy, and his personal life philosophy,' commented Abdulhamid Juma, CEO of Dubai Media City. 'It is also fully consistent with the long-standing policy of the UAE as a country, a policy set by His Highness Sheikh Zayed himself.'

'The dedication of the Operation Cultural Bridge program and the festival's closing gala screening will be DIFF's way of respecting Sheikh Zayed's memory and honoring his life,' said Neil Stephenson, Festival Director. 'Sheikh Zayed was always a strong advocate of interfaith tolerance and harmony among religions and between cultures, and he continually promoted peaceful co-existence among the peoples of the world, stressing the need for constructive dialogue and non-violent resolution of conflicts. It is for these reasons that we feel this tribute is such an appropriate and fitting one for our festival to make.'

The section 'Operation Cultural Bridge: A Tribute To His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan' will feature a selection of international films that tell stories which serve to tear down walls of inter-racial prejudice and intolerance, and which help to stimulate dialogue and build cross-border and cross-cultural bridges.

As a highly respected figure across the Arab world and internationally, Sheikh Zayed's influence and generosity created a living legacy of cultural understanding and bridge-building. By adopting these concepts as the central theme of DIFF, the organizers aim to create a platform via film to communicate the importance of these values to the local and global community.
