Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi receives entrepreneurship award from Britain's House of Lords
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, November 23 - 2004 at 10:44
- PRESS RELEASE
Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy and Planning, and Chief Executive Officer of Tejari, the Middle East online business-to-business marketplace, recently received a special entrepreneurship award from the United Kingdom's House of Lords.
The entrepreneurship award is a highly privileged honor presented by the House of Lords to individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership and innovation in their respective fields.
"Sheikha Lubna's business acumen combined with her foresight and dedication has made Tejari.com a prominent brand, not only in the Middle East but throughout the world. She is a true inspiration for women everywhere and it gives me great pleasure to present her with this entrepreneurship award on behalf of the House of Lords," said Lord Ahmed of Rotherham at the awards ceremony.
In addition to receiving the award, Sheikha Lubna also received a VIP tour of the House of Lords, a venerable institution with a long and illustrious past. Its origins can be traced back to the fourteenth century. As the second chamber of the U.K. Houses of Parliament, it has the power to scrutinize and delay legislation put forward by the government in the House of Commons. Members of the House of Lords (known as 'peers') consist of Lords Spiritual (senior bishops) and Lords Temporal (lay peers).
Sheikha Lubna reflected on the success of Tejari as she received her award. "It is a tremendous honor to receive this award from Lord Ahmed and the House of Lords. This recognition highlights the growing global awareness of the Tejari brand as well as the hard work and customer focus of all of my colleagues contributing to the development of the online marketplace," she said.
Since inception, Tejari has won many important awards acknowledging its efforts in promoting business-to-business online trade in the Middle East, including the achievement of Superbrand status earlier this year. Gulf Marketing Review, a leading Middle East publication, named Tejari one of the Gulf Brands of the Decade during 2004. Tejari was also named as the "Best Content Provider in e-Business" award for 2003 at the World Summit Award (WSA) held in Geneva.
