DTCM strongly promotes Dubai in EIBTM through exemplary public-private partnership

As part of its endeavors to take the aggressive promotional and marketing of Dubai in overseas markets to newer heights, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is mounting a major presence in this year's edition of the European Incentive Business and Travel Meetings (EIBTM) fair in Spain.

The world's leading tourism and travel show will see the participation of Dubai for the 15th consecutive year. The EIBTM-2004 is being held in Barcelona, Spain, from November 30 to December 2. The EIBTM will take place in Spain for the next five years.

Measuring 325.25 square metres, the Dubai stand has attracted 60 co-participants under the DTCM umbrella. The number of co-participants increased by 20 per cent compared with the previous year.

The department organized a pre-fair meeting for the co-participants to brief them about the arrangements and share their views and suggestions.

The meeting was addressed by the DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions Mr Khalifa Buamaim, and attended by the DTCM Overseas Promotions staff, Mr Saleh Al Geziry, Khalid bin Nassar, and Mr Omar Al Qurashi. Mr Buamaim briefed the participants about the programmes and preparations for the exhibition.

Europe is an important source market for Dubai and there has been a significant year-on-year increase in the number of visitors from the Europe. The number of Spanish visitors to Dubai hotel establishments recorded an 18.2 per cent increase in 2003 over the previous year.

The 60 co-participants comprise Dubai-based hotels and hotel apartments, tour operators, travel companies and golf clubs in addition to the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai Racing Club, Dubai World Cup, Dubai International Airport, Dubai Duty Free and Dubai Cruise Terminal. Dubai Convention Bureau, represented by its director Mr Awadh Al Seghayer, is also participating to strongly market Dubai's MICE strengths to a global audience.

The exhibition, which was held in Geneva last year - home of EIBTM for the last 14 years, attracted as many as 4,131 visitors while the total number of attendees who had pre-registered numbered 2,965; including hosted buyers, trade visitors and the media.

The EIBTM is a premium international event dedicated to the global meeting and incentives industry, making it the perfect business and network forum.

The event attracts industry buyers and exhibitors from over 100 countries and is suitable for resorts, convention bureaus, conference and exhibition venues, hospitality and incentive venues.

The event is seen as the prime platform for the incentives and meetings industry and is the perfect networking forum.

Over half of the buyers at this event are top-level decision makers taking part in the event as part of the hosted-buyer programme.
