Addressing leading information technology resellers in Dubai last week, Ralph de Villiers, Caldera's regional manager announced: "The region's small to medium businesses can today have the same powerful computing capabilities that Aramco and Emirates Airlines enjoy, however with smaller budgets." Caldera International (Nasdaq: CALDD) provides "Powerful Choices" for businesses through its UNIX, Linux and Volution product lines and services. Running on Intel based servers, Caldera's Linux operating system brings high computing performance capabilities for the Middle East's small to medium businesses. "Compared to competing formulas, Intel based servers running on Caldera's Linux is the best price / performance formula to the region's businesses."

The Caldera, Intel high performance computing options is set to be available through Tech Data, the Middle East leading information technology logistics management and distribution company, and the sole distributor for Caldera solutions in the region. "Caldera brings to the region powerful choices," comments Frances Furtado, Software Business Unit Manager at Tech Data. "With more than 46,000 servers in the Middle East today running on open source systems, as these businesses needs grow, migrating to more powerful platforms is today much easier and cost effective."

The combination, according to Intel, presents not only a price / performance value combination to the majority of the region's businesses, but also, offers a unique scalability option that allows businesses to grow their server capabilities through clustering technologies. Ferhad Patel, Market Development Manager at Intel MENA comments: "The arrival of Caldera is good news for this market; in the Middle East, Intel based servers running Linux platforms bring best price performance value for end users and businesses alike, and Caldera's applications can now bring significant additional benefits. With our current 32-bit Intel Xeon based servers, small to medium businesses can easily enhance the performance of their systems through clustering architecture, with either Linux or Unix operating systems."
