IBM awarded for key contribution in major Dubai e-Government project

Dubai Municipality has marked the achievements of the IBM team on a major e-government project that creates access to municipality services through a sophisticated portal facility.
"We are delighted to say that the portal has been an enormous success where 90% of service transactions for all Dubai Municipality services available through the portal today are being received online. This proves that not only are people willing to use online services but that these services are also providing tangible benefits for citizens, businesses organisations and government employees alike," said Hussein Lootah, Head of the e-Government Steering Committee in Dubai Municipality . "IBM is a service provider to many leading government organisations around the world and their outstanding contribution to this project has been key to our achievements today."
With over 8,000 business users currently registered to its online services, Dubai Municipality has reported several important benefits as a result of the portal implementation. Some of these include significantly fewer visits to Dubai Municipality premises, online inquiry facilities, availability of status details and updates online and via SMS, faster service delivery and a streamlined model that simplifies all Dubai Municipality process, such as improved clarity on requirements, fewer forms and attachments and the introduction of online approval processes.
"IBM works on many e-Government projects around the world and we believe that the achievements by Dubai Municipality are significant and deserve a lot of credit not only at the regional level, but also in a global context," said Samer Shaar, general manager of IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan. "One of the main reasons for the success of this project has been the leadership and the guidance of the Dubai Municipality team and its continuous focus on improving processes. Their efforts have contributed greatly to the adoption of online government services in the country today."
