Only 10 more days to see Lost Worlds Exhibition

The people of Qatar have only another 10 days to take advantage of the Lost Worlds exhibition which will remain open until 11 December 2004.

Organised by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage (NCCAH), with the help of the Natural History Museum in London, the exhibition showcases the splendours of past life on Earth and tells the tale of the past five extinctions on our planet and the very real possibility of a sixth extinction.

Over 75,000 visitors have flocked to the exhibition since it opened on 21 October and have marvelled at the magnificent collection of some astonishing and rare treasures from the natural world dating back to the time of the dinosaur with the awe inspiring diplodocus and triceratops skeletons. Many rare and exquisite fossil specimens and some of the beautiful and fascinating creatures that have already been made extinct by our own human activity, and others that are on the verge of extinction, are also on show.

The exhibition has met with rave reviews both from the visiting public and the Qatari media who have enthused about the delights of Lost Worlds:

'It brings together an overwhelming collection of rare treasures from the natural world including dinosaurs, extinct birds, meteorites, fossils of extinct sea creatures, plants, reptiles and mammals,' writes Qatar Happening.

'That such an eclectic collection, displayed almost poetically, with an interesting audio tour, actually has no entry fee is something that many visitors take time to understand,' raves Qatar Today.

'The people of Qatar are privileged to be able to take advantage of this world-class exhibition offering, which is available to the public free of charge,' says Hubert Bari, Manager of Exhibitions for the NCCAH. 'I urge everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity and to visit the exhibition before it closes at the end of next week.'

'We are delighted that so many people have visited the exhibition to date and we invite the people of Qatar to come and enjoy the wonders of Lost Worlds with their families while it is open for the remaining 10 days,' says Khalid Hassan Al Jaber, Natural History Expert at the NCCAH.

The exhibition is being held free of charge to the public at the Sheraton Hotel, Doha and is open 8am-12pm, and 4pm-11pm weekdays (Sunday-Thursday) and 8am-11pm weekends (Friday & Saturday).

The Lost Worlds Exhibition has provided the people of Qatar with an idea of what they can expect from the Council in the future. As part of the cultural and educational development of Qatar, three new Museums of the highest quality are planned to be built along the Corniche. In addition to the Islamic Arts Museum that is already underway (due for completion in 2007), the National Library which will house the new Natural History Museum and a museum of Photography are also planned. These three landmark buildings represent a cultural and educational resource that will be unique in the region.
