The Palm, Deira is the third of the entirely man-made, palm tree shaped islands in Dubai, and is marked by its extraordinary size, among other distinctions.

Sultan bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman for Nakheel commented, "We have recently seen that The Palm, Deira has surfaced above sea level which means that we are beginning to see the fruits of our planning take shape. We decided that those investors around the region should have the opportunity to meet with Nakheel when investing in their properties, be they for business or leisure, hence the ensuing month long road show to those key markets that have requested our presence".

Nakheel's team of professional by-lingual sales staff are heading a delegation to Bahrain, and it was confirmed that the special road show addressed potential investors who wished to purchase exclusive property on the island but who have not had the opportunity to visit the Nakheel sales offices in Dubai. Whilst on site at The Sheraton in Manama, investors will be able to purchase immediately and reserve villas on The Palm, Deira throughout the day.

"In the past, we have witnessed great interest in our properties from Bahrain - and we are maximising our sales efforts by taking The Palm Deira around the Gulf region. Our whistle-stop tour of the region takes us first to Bahrain, which has become a major market, were the huge demand and interest in Nakheel properties is phenomenal. We have on several occasions, during the sales of residential properties on our unique developments, been approached with strong requests from in-country representatives for an opportunity to meet with the sales team, so in response, Nakheel are here today at the Sheraton to do exactly that. It is the massive interest which has led us to assembling this road show kicking off in Bahrain. We believe that it will maximise interest, comfort and convenience for buyers located here," he stated.

"We propose to have three distinct styles of villas on Palm, Deira. Complementing the villas, the island will feature private and public beaches and marinas, shopping and dining outlets, and several facilities for leisure, rest and recreation." Sulayem said.

The Palm, Deira will be built in waters that are 6 meters deep reaching to 22 metres below sea level. "The island will be reclaimed from various strategic points in the sea bed. A team of experts are currently involved in identifying soil content and testing its suitability and compatibility. As for the actual reclamation process, an estimated one billion cubic metres of sand and rock will be used to create the land mass of The Palm, Deira," Sulayem stated. In the second stage of building the island, the infrastructure construction will include the creation of Local Bridges and Flyovers and the implementation of Waste Water Collection, Storm Water Drainage, Sanitary Sewage, Irrigation and Fire fighting systems.

Sulayem emphasised that marine biologists were among the many specialist consultants involved in the development of the island. "We have already learnt at Jebel Ali and Jumeirah that the construction of breakwaters creates a new marine habitat which attracts several species of fish and birds, including hitherto unseen schools of tropical fish. In Deira too, we expect that the reclamation of the island will enhance the marine environment vastly," he said.
