DTCM promotes cruise tourism in the 2nd Seatrade Middle East

Apart from being a principal sponsor of the 2nd Seatrade Middle East Maritime Exhibition-2004, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is utilizing the three-day trade exhibition to highlight the cruise tourism strengths and regional growth opportunities.

A 72-square-metre stand has been set up by the department of the exhibition-cum-conference that runs until December 8.

The Hosted Buyers programme has attracted key decision-makers from world's leading cruise liners from Germany, Italy, Singapore, US and the UK.

Mr. Awadh Al Seghayer, Acting Manager Dubai Cruise Terminal, said: "The department's support for the Seatrade Middle East Maritime is in line with the aggressive promotional agenda to enlighten the world about Dubai's cruise tourism."

He added: "Dubai has a rich maritime history and is undergoing rapid developments and expansion. This exhibition allows the world to explore the facilities and services that have made the emirate a sought-after place for business."

Seatrade Middle East Maritime is being held again under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, UAE Minister of Defense, and DTCM Chairman.

The show has tripled in size compared with the previous edition and has more than 200 exhibitors from over 30 countries.

It features first time national pavilions from Iran, Turkey, India, Pakistan and Holland. The 4th Seatrade Middle East Cruise Conference attracted 330 participants from 40 countries.

Another important highlight of the event is Dubai International Maritime Awards.

Operated by the DTCM, the Dubai Cruise Terminal was officially inaugurated by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, UAE Defense Minister and Chairman of the DTCM in March 2001.

The ship-shaped building is located on a 335-metre quay offering the capacity to berth two ships simultaneously, while the terminal itself is around 3,300 square meters in size.
