- PRESS RELEASE
Avaya Inc. (NYSE), a leading global provider of voice and data networks to businesses, has launched its INDeX Management Console (IMC).
Recent research conducted by Avaya among SME customers, indicates that IT and communications managers wish to manage their switching platforms and networks including voice applications from a single point, in the same, simple way that IT networks are managed.
The new IMC will allow them to do this by offering the following new features:
Single point of configuration, making changes much easier for IT and communications managers
Multiple, disparate locations appear as one single entity, giving a single, simple overview of the network
Easy and rapid access to administration files - through the Microsoft tree structure, users are able to directly target specific areas of the INDeX database.
Look and feel very similar to Microsoft user interface, making the system more intuitive for most IT managers who use Microsoft software daily
Simple installation procedure
Gary Bloomfield, managing director of Avaya business partner, Sterry Communications, comments: "The IMC interface and wizard, which is familiar to all Microsoft users - makes new data entry logical and concise. Also, it addresses the key need of any IT manager - making the day-to-day tasks simple. In this way, the product fills a gap in the SME converged network management space and so we predict high sales of the IMC among INDeX users."
The IMC is based on the Microsoft Management Console allowing users to customise the management console to include only the administrative tools they need, whilst retaining the Microsoft style and operation.
Dave Robinson, director of Global SME Solutions, Avaya, comments, "We are continuing to invest heavily in our INDeX product to ensure that it remains a competitive SME converged network system for many years to come. The IMC demonstrates our commitment to the product and our desire to build upon its leadership status."

The IMC can be used to manage either a single site or an INDeX-Net network. INDeX-Net allows multiple locations to operate as a single Public Branch Exchange (PBX), offering virtually seamless operation between sites.
The IMC integrated wizard makes adding new users and speed dials a very simple process, with the console automatically popping up the selection of appropriate available directory numbers. For more complex configuration, the user can simply highlight the INDeX site name that requires database changes and launch a Telnet session, providing access to every area of configuration. Also, the IMC's 'list export' facility allows the IT manager to easily create hard copies of current configurations and up to date directories. The console integrates help files providing guidance to new users.
INDeX supports SNMP (simple network management protocol), allowing users to monitor the status of the INDeXs within the network, notifying a central helpdesk of possible network problems. The information can be delivered in the form of an email, SMS message or through a network management screen.
The IMC requires the following architecture:
The console can be run on a single machine or in a client server configuration
As a single machine the operating system can be either Windows® 2000 or Windows NT4(R)
In a client-server configuration the client will operate on Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT4, with the server requiring Windows 2000 or NT4
The INDeX needs to be running a CPU-X installed with Level 9.2.1 or above.
The data network needs to be running IP.
The IMC software is free of charge, however it does require the INDeX user to have the latest version of INDeX software and a central processing unit (CPU).

About INDeX
INDeX or Integrated Network Digital eXchange from Avaya is an open, converged, communications platform, capable of handling voice and data requirements as one. Conventional systems have tended to offer either a PABX or key system solutions, with little room for manoeuvre between the two. With INDeX, these old distinctions no longer apply. Advanced features and functionality can be added as needed to improve your business processes and enhance customer service.
