Dubailand said the project has been allocated 2 million square feet of prime land. Leading UAE business house, The Leader Group, will develop the unique project at an estimated cost of AED 500 million.

The signature ceremony took place at the Dubailand offices in Emirates Towers. Mr. Abdul Raheem Tayeb Al Awadhi, CEO of The Leader Group and Mr. Salem bin Dasmal, CEO of Dubailand, signed the contract. Also present at the event was Mr. Samir Tayeb Al Awadhi, Vice-chairman of The Leader Group.

"We are very pleased to welcome The Leader Group to Dubailand," said bin Dasmal following the signing ceremony. "We believe that The Leader Group will build one of the finest structures Dubailand. The Dubai Bazaar shall be a pleasure to visit, browse and shop in," added the CEO of Dubailand LLC.

Dubailand has been set up by Dubailand's promoter Dubai Development and Investment Authority, to oversee and manage the region's best and largest lifestyle, tourism, entertainment and leisure complex. It is expected that the vast complex will receive investments worth AED 20 billion in its first phase of development.

Unique Structure
Leader Group CEO Al Awadhi said Dubai Bazaar will be the first traditional Islamic marketplace of this magnitude in the region. "Not only will it be located in a development that is likely to see a 200,000 strong footfall per day, its own size of 2 million square feet sets it apart from any other similar facility in the region or even the world."

Dubai Bazaar's design will boast truly modern architectural expressions as far as structural systems and contemporary building materials are concerned.

In appearance, Islamic architecture will be the true expression of a rich culture that has unified countries and people as far apart as Andalusia, Central Asia, Arabia, Iran, Indonesia and Sub-Saharan Africa. There are visual variations in the architecture of different regions. However, a cohesive unity of architectural concept underlies these diverse elements. In recognition of this unity and diversity, the design of Dubai Bazaar attempts to capture the true spirit of the traditional Islamic souk.

"The Planning and design of Dubai Bazaar is a celebration of a great tradition," Mr. Abdul Raheem Tayeb Al Awadhi stated. "The Islamic architectural design of Dubai Bazaar will capture the true spirit of traditional Islamic marketplaces. Among the countless attractions will be included several musical and artistic activities where groups from all countries of the Muslim World will be invited to participate."

Dubai bazaar will introduce a variety of specialised markets selling their own produce of varying materials by skilled craftsmen.

Leader Group will hold a project launch event by the end of the year to present the plans, perspectives and the different phases of the project.
