meUNIVERSITY sponsors environmental workshop

The environment is something we should all be more aware of and take on a responsibility. With this in mind, meUNIVERSITY has partnered with the Student Event Centre to organise the Nature Network workshop for university students. With the help of experienced speakers from the WWF, UNEP and EDA, students learned through interactive presentations about the conservation concerns affecting the UAE, after which they were encouraged proactively to participate and think about solutions to improve their environment.

The main aim of the meUNIVERSITY workshop was to establish a network of student 'nature clubs' in UAE educational institutions. These clubs were encouraged to lead, generate and participate in environmental activities, with objectives to instil greater environmental awareness in all students at their institutions and provide a fun yet educational forum in which to develop solutions and ideas to improve the UAE environment.

Mr. Louis Scotto, General Manager Retail Banking Emirates Bank said: "The first meUNIVERSITY workshop targeting the environment, the first of many student workshops planned for the future, can be the start of a wonderful conservation initiative led fully by students. Not only will a workshop such as this increase awareness about the current environmental issues affecting the country, it will also encourage our young students to actively participate and set up Nature Clubs with the aim to increase awareness and to pro-actively work on solutions."

Topics featured during the workshop included; 'What are the conservation issues facing the UAE', 'Identifying UAE conservation priorities', 'How to address these conservation issues' and 'How to set up achievable goals for each of the nature clubs'.
